One of the largest private research universities in the southeast, Miami University serves more than 15,000 undergraduate and graduate students in its 12 schools and colleges. Students can choose from more than 150 majors in areas as diverse as architecture, business administration, nursing, engineering and much more. Perhaps most prominent is its School of Medicine, which is part of the 80-acre University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center complex and is currently involved in currently more than 1,200 research projects aimed at advancing basic science and clinical care. Located in Coral Gables, Miami University is about 10 miles from downtown Miami. The University is also home to The Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, located on a 16-acre waterfront campus on Virginia Key in Biscayne Bay.
